A petition was filed in the AP High Court on Monday, seeking a direction to the chief commissioner of Income-Tax to inquire into the amount spent by transport minister and PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana on his daughter's marriage recently at Vizianagaram.
State convener for Congress Secular Hindu Forum, L. Ravi Kumar Reddy, filed the plea stating that the forum was formed by some senior Congress workers to protect the interests of the Indian National Congress.
He said that the forum was disturbed with the current fiasco in the ruling party and the government and added that the alleged involvement of the PCC chief in certain illegal activities had had an adverse impact on the party's image.
The petitioner alleged that the minister had abused his powers and that of the state government for his daughter's marriage which was attended by the Governors of three states, the Chief Minister and about 70 per cent of the state Cabinet, 150 legislators and several others.
Reddy said that it was estimated that about Rs 50 crore had been spent on the day of the marriage and the common man had suffered a lot due to traffic jams between Visakhap-atnam and Vizianagaram.
He urged the court to direct the chief commissioner of Income Tax to enquire into the amount spent by the minister and also to direct the state chief secretary to submit a report on the government's expenditure in providing accommodation, transportation to the VVIPs and VIPs who had attended the marriage
