Within an hour after DC hit the stalls on Monday morning, sleuths of prohibition and enforcement wing (PEW) landed on Hanuman colony in Injambakkam to crackdown on illegal liquor sellers forcing the waiting guzzlers to run helter skelter. Residents thanked the paper for highlighting and putting an end to their long-time menace of drunkards.
It was hectic day from the morning for the office bearers of Injambakkam residents welfare association as the officials led by assistant commissioner Malalrvizhi from PEW kept enquiring from early morning to track down the ‘mobile’ liquor salesmen and the volume of liquor sold on a day there.
“We want to thank Deccan Chronicle whole heartedly for the impact that the news item highlighting our plight has made and we could notice the change visibly. The road looks unusually calm today where several men used to loiter after consuming liquor causing hardships to us,” said Mr Sainath, president, Injambakkam residents welfare association. “This is second time in a short span that DC has come to our rescue, though for a different cause this time.”
Apart from making detailed enquiries on the illegal liquor shops, enforcement officials have also conducted raids, around four times, at the Tasmac shop where the illegal sellers were suspected to procure stocks, said Mr.Pon. Thangavelu, Secretary of the association. “Women and senior citizens are a relieved lot as police personnel have made sure that guzzlers did not venture on streets. We hope this peaceful situation persists for long time.”
Meanwhile, the residents have traced down the registration number of the two-wheeler and passed it on to the enquiry officials.
