Urging all political parties to topple the UPA-2 government for a string of “anti-people policies”, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee declared on Saturday that her party would bring a no-confidence motion against the Union government in the Winter Session of Parliament.
What surprised many was her open request to the Left Front, and even the BJP, for support. Her announcement came after a meeting with Trinamul MPs at the Writers’ Buildings on Saturday.
“This government has no moral right to continue ... as it is looting the nation. We have always held our heads high, for which we were taunted...,” Ms Banerjee said, adding, “We will move the no-confidence motion on the first day of the Winter Session to oppose the Centre’s series of anti-people decisions, right from FDI in retail to the cap on subsidised LPG to land policy. This government must go. Our parliamentary party leader, Sudip Bandyopad-hyay, has been assigned to move the motion. Party MP Saugata Roy will take the initiative.”
