A women’s group has filed a complaint with the SHRC against the Kurnool police, stating that they deliberately did not register an FIR against a child abuser-cumrapist last August.
P. Prashanthi of the Andhra Pradesh Mahila Samatha Society said that D.C.H. Babu Rao, a teacher in Dommaladinne village was accused of sexually abusing a student.
The police have not started any proceedings against him, and even an FIR has not been filed, Prashanthi said.
The Mahila Samatha Society approached the con
cerned DSP to order the local SP to accept the FIR, but their application wasn’t accepted. Instead, they were shown statements from the girl’s parents stating that nothing had happened.
Even the original medical certificate was withheld by the police saying that an inquiry was in progress, Prashanthi said.
She said that the child had been pulled out of school and made to work in the cotton fields and her parents were threatened by the villagers.
The SHRC asked the Kurnool SP to submit a report by December 6. It also ordered the Kurnool collector to submit the victim’s medical certificate.
