‘People in India are receptive to new sounds’

India is one of their favourite destinations. And that is no secret given that the name of their label — Ajunabeats — is inspired by one of Goa’s most favourite beaches.

British trance band Above and Beyond are in the country once again to enthrall fans as part of the celebrations to mark the 450th edition of their popular radio show, Trance Around The World.
Jono Grant, a member of the band, says he can’t wait to play for his Indian listeners. “People in India are very receptive to new sounds. That’s all you want as a musician,” says Jono, who believes that every sound makes for an inspiration.
Above And Beyond has a trend of staging a magical evening for its audience. Right from proposing to a girlfriend to renewing wedding vows, their stage has witnessed a lot of dramatic events. “EDM is the kind of genre stays with you even when the party is over. You can’t really hum it in your mind. But experiences like these leave you with a sweet after-taste and make the concert memorable,” he says, adding that it has to be done at the spur of the moment.
Jono describes A&B’s music as global and experimental. “We love to play with music and strive to create something new with each track,” he says. Which is why they have taken some of the most unusual tracks like those of Madonna and Britney Spears and given it a twist of their own.
