Chief minister J.Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced the release of water from Amaravathy, Vaigai and Periyar dams to facilitate agricultural activities.
She said following pleas from the farmers in Tirupur and Karur, water would be released from the Amaravathy dam from Monday for irrigation. In a statement here Ms Jayalalithaa said this would help the ryots to raise the crop in about 29,387 hectares of farmlands.
Also, she said the Vaigai dam would be opened for irrigation from November 9 which would benefit 1,50,043 hectares in Madurai, Sivaganga and Dindigul districts.
