Karva Chauth is round the corner and Delhi socialities are all set to make it very special. And adding an extra dose of glam to the day are designers with their special Karva Chauth collections.
Model Amanpreet Wahi loves this occasion and has decided on her look for the day. She says, “I am all set to sport a perfect Punjabi kudi look this Karva Chauth with a red flowing anarkali teamed with a phulkari dupatta and Punjabi juttis.”
Karva Chauth is a fast observed by married women for the long lives of their husbands. Amanpreet offers a nugget of practical advice, “All those who are fasting must drink loads of water a day before, so that you don’t look de-hydrated on the D-day. Wear makeup to conceal tiredness.”
It’s all a celebration of vibrant colours and a glitz blitz for designer Pam Mehta, “Since Karva Chauth is all about flaunting your marital bliss and winters have started setting in, we have used fabrics which are rich and elegant such as silk and viscose embellished with sequin work and bead work. These can be accessorised by ethnic Indian jewellery for a beautiful bridal look.”
For ladies who wish to fuse traditionalism with modernity, designer Kiran Uttam Ghosh’s Karva Chauth collection offers sarong saris. She says, “We have a lighter, contemporary and more traditional rendition of the unstitched garment. If you wish to attract attention without being loud and flashy, we have also designed multi-level jackets which can be teamed well with a sarong skirt or sari.”
In sync with the spirit of the festival, designer Kammali Mehta, of Kammali Couture collection, has kept her palette true to the all-time favourite shades of red, pink and orange. “This Karva Chauth we have used delicate fabrics like tulle, lace, sheeting and nets. For that dash of bling, the saris and lehengas are adorned with Swarovski crystals,” she says.
And for a perfect beginning and end to the day, fashionista Tanisha Mohan has elaborate plans. She says, “A day before Karva Chauth, I will go to Hanuman Mandir to get mehendi done, followed by buying many pretty bangles to match my salwar suit. On that day, after eating my sargi (early morning vermicelli pudding), I will take two Dispirins so that I stay fresh throughout the day. After puja in the evening, I will seek my in-laws’ blessings and then party at night with my friends over good food and drinks.”
