The CCTV footage from CST revealed that the woman who abandoned the three-month old baby was breast-feeding him for eight minutes at the station premises, indicating that she might be his mother.
The footage revealed the woman aged around 30 to 35 years of age walking with the baby in the circulating area of CST for around 15 to 20 minutes before handing him over to a passenger
on the pretext of making a call. The woman is then seen roaming at CST for 20 minutes after abandoning the child.
The police suspects that the woman might be the boy’s mother as the child was neatly dressed and well kept. “The footage revealed that the woman was breast-feeding the child and hence, we assume that she might be his mother,” said Surendra Deshmukh, senior police inspector, CST GRP.
“With no missing complaint coming forward in the city, we believe that the woman had come from outside the city limits,” said Mr Deshmukh The GRP official also said that the woman seemed to be in two minds. “The woman was seen going to a ticket window with the baby, but did not book one. She is also seen trying to board a Howrah-bound train, but later changed her mind,” said an officer.
