Admitting that former external affairs minister S. M. Krishna’s presence would help the Congress regain power in Karnataka, pradesh Congress committee president Dr G. Parameshwar said on Monday that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would delegate the task for the veteran leader.
Speaking to media persons here, he said "I personally believe that Mr Krishna's seniority and in-depth knowledge of issues will certainly help us in our efforts to wrest Karnataka in 2013 Assembly polls."
Mr Parameshwar, however, was not aware of the role or responsibility likely to be delegated to Mr Krishna. “But the Congress will certainly use his knowledge, experience, popularity and goodwill. He has his own followers and image among the people. So it will be his plus point,” he added.
Replying to a question, Dr Parameshwara clarified that Mr Krishna was not asked to resign, but he decided to make way for youngsters on his own volition.
“He held several rounds of discussions with Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh before making public his decision. Therefore, it will not be right on any body's part to state that Mr Krishna was made to resign,” he explained.
