Funky fun marks last hurrah to singlehood

Whoever invented bachelor parties must have been on the hunt for an antidote to the cold feet that brides and grooms tend to get before saying “I do”, and obviously to ease the nerves, a fun-filled party is just what they need before the D-day.

From the traditionalsangeet ceremony to modern day hen and stag parties, the core idea remains the same but the themes are getting bolder and bigger!
Aditya Kapur, owner of Party Hunterz, says, “In past few years, there has been a considerable rise in number of pre-bridal parties in the city. We cater to a lot of accessories that people use on such occasions and we have seen almost 30 per cent rise in the sales of such items this year. Not just guys, but now even girls go for fun theme-based parties before their marriage and depending on the number of people, the budget can vary from Rs 30,000 to Rs 3,00,000.”
He adds, “This year we have got orders for various themes like Vegas, beach and glow-in-the-dark. With the girls, the all-time favourite themes are hot-pink and Playboy bunnies, where they purchase pink accessories like glasses, eyewear and hats. We have also introduced LED light accessories like ice buckets, shot glasses that are popular among youngsters.”
Kanika Singh, an HR manager, recalls her own pre-bridal party and says, “I had the time of my life at my chick party. Our theme was retro and we were dressed in the most colourful clothes we could find in our wardrobe. We wore garlands, oversized eyewear and psychedelic kaftans and danced all night. We even ordered flower-shaped cup cakes and snacks for this party.”
Urvashi Sharma, an amateur photographer, says new age brides are more experimental, hence the idea of hen parties gives them a chance to try out various fun activities. She says, “At my best friend’s wedding, we decided to go to Goa and partied there for two nights; we ate, drank and danced like crazy. It was a dream vacation for us as we always wanted to go to a beach location and chill out with our girl gang.”
Akshay Kapoor, an entrepreneur, mentions that bachelor parties are not just about drinking marathon anymore as guys too like to like to have fun. He says, “We organised a really cool bachelor party for our friend, who got married last year. We booked a hotel room and it was a close group, so only a few of us were invited. The theme was casino and we decorated the room in that set-up. All the guys were dressed in formals with hats, we drank and played card games all night. We arranged for special waiters who were dressed like casino guards.”
