The ongoing legacy of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge saw another landmark in its glorious past when it successfully completed a marvellous 888 weeks in the iconic Maratha Mandir theatre last Friday. One of the biggest hits of its time, the film came from the Yash Raj Films stable. Sadly, these celebrations will now have to be toned down a little.
Legendary filmmaker and king of romance Yash Chopra passed away on Sunday, leaving behind a long legacy of some of the most memorable films in his repertoire. Amazingly, the balcony of the cinema theatre was still packed to capacity on Sunday. Chopra, who made the audience fall in love with the larger than life characters Raj and Simran dancing in the snow-clad Swiss mountains, was much more than just a filmmaker.
“Fans have seen the film many times, still come and watch it as the charm of watching such a legendary film on the big screen is incomparable,” said Mr Pandey. The film has been successfully running the morning show of the 1995 Chopra produced film for the past 17 years and is a record by any Indian film.
During the film’s completion of 500 weeks in the theatre, Chopra was felicitated by Maratha Mandir owner Manoj Desai at the theatre itself, revealed Mr Pandey. “I wish Yashji was with us to see the completion of 1,000 weeks of this legendary film,” added Mr Pandey.
