Scotland Yard has arrested one more man as part of its investigation into the attack on Lt. Gen. Kuldip Singh Brar (Retd.) in London on September 30. This is the 14th arrest and till now only two men have been charged.
The 29-year-old man was arrested from a residence in the West Midlands on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Wednesday, the Metropolitan police said on Thursday afternoon. He is being questioned in the police custody. He is 14th person to be arrested in connection with the attack on the 78-year-old general, who led the controversial Operation Bluestar in Amritsar in 1984.
The Met police on Tuesday evening released the 27-year-old man, the 13th person to be arrested in the case. The man, who was arrested in west London on Sunday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, has now been bailed to return in November pending further inquiries. He has not been charged in the case.
The police last week released 10 people, including two women, from custody on police bail after questioning. They will have to present themselves to the police in November pending further inquiries. However, none of these 10 people have been charged as yet. The UK Border Agency is investigating three men arrested for immigration irregularities by the police.
On Monday, 33-year old Barjinder Singh Sangha and 34-year-old Mandeep Singh Sandhu were formally charged with wounding Lt. Gen. Brar “with intent to do grievous bodily harm” in Westminster magistrates’ court.
Barjinder Singh Sangha, from Wolverhampton, and Sandhu, from Birmingham, were charged only with “grievous bodily harm” and not attempted murder of Gen. Brar. Sangha and Sandhu were remanded into custody will now be present on December 7 at Southwark crown court for a plea and case management hearing.
Sangha had not applied for bail and the presiding judge rejected the bail plea lodged by Sandhu’s lawyer on Monday.
