A Mumbai-based doctor has developed an android application for rheumatoid arthritis patients, which will allow patients to store and use their medical data and also interact with doctors.
Though the application is largely for rheumatoid arthritis, there are features, which are specifically designed for the Lupus disease. Lupus is a long-term autoimmune disorder that can affect the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs of the patients.
The unpredictable and constantly changing nature of this ailment makes it a challenge to conquer.
Speaking about the application, the developer, Dr Shashank Akrekar, said, “I’d been working on this for the past six months. I sought the help of tech experts for this app. What is different about the app is that it was developed with the help of patients from world over, who gave their suggestions on my blog as to what features they would like in it.”
The lupus app has an appointment reminder; it also allows the doctor and patient to create a concise medical history together, so, even if a patient changes the doctor, it would eliminate the need of going through files dating back to many years.
It also allows one doctor to write notes to other doctors, if need be.
Explaining the features of the app, Dr Akrekar said, “The application allows lupus patients to take pictures of rashes and
automatically attaches the photo to their existing files and store it away. A lot of times, rashes come and go and when patients go to the doctor, they may not have the rash. This application assists the diagnosis and treatment further.”
The application comes free of cost and does not require doctors to have an android phone. Patients with android phones can use this application.
