In a bid to create more terror alertness among youngsters, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has chalked out a programme that it plans to implement in schools and colleges soon.
As a part of the drive, RPF personnel will instruct students about how to react if they find a suspicious object or person, how to act during emergency situations and how to identify potential threats. For this purpose, the RPF has released a booklet for employees to equip them adequately before they start to train the students.
“We have undertaken this programme to create awareness amongst youngsters. Police personnel will visit schools and colleges and instruct students. Since many of them are local train travellers, it is important to sensitise them to avert attacks in the future,” said Mr Alok Bohra, senior divisional commissioner, RPF, Central Railway.
RPF staffers, who have been given the booklet Workers’ Way, will impart lessons on keeping vigil, reporting suspicious objects, being alert to people and activities that are out-of-place, looking out for passengers with nervous movements and those who quickly exit an area after abandoning baggage.
Students will be trained to identify explosives, which are placed in abandoned items or containers such as a thermos flask, propane canister, fire extinguisher or piece of pipe. The drive is also aimed at alerting students on how to react during emergency situations and swiftly pass necessary information to authorities.
