Low rainfall has led to drinking water scarcity in many parts of the city. The administration should immediately start projects to remedy this situation, said the District Council meet on Saturday.
“The problem is acute in areas like Tuttiyoor, Kadavanthra, Tykoodam, Vennala and Puzhakarapadam. Speedy steps should be taken to remodify the pipe network and lay new ones wherever necessary.
If the authorities begin projects to address this, the necessary finance could be met out of the MLA-MP funds,” Benny Behanan, MLA, said during the meeting at Collectorate.
West Kochi is already reeling under drinking water shortage woes, Dominic Presentation, MLA said, urging the Kerala Water Authority to take immediate action.
“It’s been weeks since the Karuvelipadi pump house developed glitches. Despite allotting Rs 3 crore, the work is still delayed,” he rued.
Meanwhile, the meet demanded immediate re-laying of the 5.66 km long road between Kumbalangi and Ezhupunna which is in a sorry state of disrepair.
Hybi Eden, MLA, who attended the meet, claimed that the Akshaya centres in the district were not functioning satisfactorily and that MLAs should be included in the Samiti overseeing their functioning.
