Amid protests from residents, Mr Ziaulla Sheriff was re-elected chairman of the managing committee of the Diamond District Apartments, Kodihalli, on the Old Airport Road, at the annual general meeting (AGM) held on Saturday. The AGM saw tense moments as members shouted slogans against the management for not registering the apartments in their names and using bouncers to intimidate those who were against the board of directors. They opposed re-election of Mr Sheriff as chairman and said he is opposed to the demands of residents. After heated arguments, the board rejected the demands of members.
Hundreds of residents protested in front of the club house, where the meeting was to be held, demanding that the apartments be registered in their names. They shouted slogans against the management saying it is not following the directions of the government and courts on registration. The management, anticipating protests, had deployed police and private security guards. Journalists who were inside the venue were ordered out. Both groups videographed the meeting. The residents, who protested throughout the meeting, said the board did not agree to any of their demands.
“We have paid stamp duty and registration fee to the government. But the management is still arguing that we are enjoying the flats and we are not the owners. They created fear among us by engaging the service of bouncers inside the meeting. We had a verbal duel with the board of directors. But at the end, with the help of a few owners, Mr Ziaulla Sheriff was re-elected as the president of the DD,” said a resident. Residents who got a raw deal at the meeting have decided to move the High Court against the non-implementation of its order to register the sites. “The management bought over some members to get approval for their resolutions. So, we are left with no option other than filing a contempt petition”, said another member.
