[1]If you missed the Jaipur literary festival early this year, here is an opportunity to make up for the same! The fifth edition of the Kovalam Literary Festival (KLF) will start in Delhi on October 3 at the India International Centre (IIC). The two-day fest will then move to Kerala.
Two dozen renowned writers of all ages from India and abroad will address a total of 21 sessions, featuring conversations, discussions and presentations on a variety of literary and social subjects, besides reading from books. Seven of them will be in Delhi.
“Delhi’s the capital of publishing. We needed to make our presence felt here,” says Binoo K. John, founder-director of KLF.
One of the biggest attractions of KLF this year is writer-musician-poet, Jeet Thayil, whose book Narcopolis has been shortlisted for the Man Booker. Excerpt reading session from his book, which features the drug dens of Mumbai, will be held at IIC.
The speakers in Delhi, apart from Thayil are Monisha Rajesh, Nilanjana Roy, Manu Joseph and Farrukh Dhondy, besides Sri Lankan author, Ru Freeman, London-based Roderick Mathews and Israeli writers, Dorit Rabinyan and Sarai Shavit.
Farrukh Dhondy is excited about his forthcoming book, London Company. His session will be an initial pre-publication curtain raiser of the book.
“Any event that keeps the interest of the Indian audience in books or culture alive is welcome! I will be reading an extract from my forthcoming book, a fiction based on my memoirs of immigrant and black politics, in which I was involved after coming down from Cambridge University,” says Dhondy.
“With this year we are taking KLF to the next level with television and marketing hook-ups in place in Kerala. It is already the top international cultural event in Kerala,” adds John.
