The high court has directed the State government to initiate action against quackery following PIL against rampant cases of quackery. A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen, has also directed the government to provide suitable protection to the whistleblower in the case. A PIL was filed seeking action against fake Ayuverdic and Unani doctors in North Karnataka. Recently, cracking the whip against quakery, the state had filed cases against more than hundred such fake doctors.
Pascal case
The high court on Tuesday adjourned to Thursday hearing on the bail plea of French embassy official Pascal Mazurier. The court adjourned after hearing after the counsel for the accused argued that though a medical certificate issued by a hospital proves the charges, the DNA test exonerated him of the charge of rape.
Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das has allowed Pascal’s wife Suja Jones’ advocate Pramila Nesargi to assist the state prosecutor in the case, who is expected to put forth her arguments on September 27 against granting bail to the accused.
Directive to BBMP
The high court on Tuesday directed the BBMP to produce documents relating to collection of beggary cess and its utilization, while hearing PIL relating to Beggar’s Colony. The court has also sought to know whether compensation has been given for acquiring land near Beggar’s Colony for construction of the ring road.
Directive to govt
In some relief for arecanut growers, the high court on Tuesday has asked the State government to take a call on implementing the Gorak Singh report, in three months time. The high court was hearing PIL seeking implementation of a financial package for arecanut growers. The bench, passed the order on a petition filed by Sagara Prantha Adike Belegarara Sangha.
