Motilal Street is store’s dumpyard

Residents of Motilal Street in T. Nagar, opposite bustling Ranganathan Street, have been complaining about dumping of debris/textile waste by a renowned textile store, located close to the street, for long.

They allege that despite taking it to notice of the civic authorities, no serious action has been initiated.

Equally unmoved is the textile store, despite residents requesting it not to dump waste. The civic body officials are hand-in-glove with the store authorities, allege residents.

“We have been facing the ordeal of indiscriminate dumping of waste and construction material at the entrance of the street, thereby affecting free movement of vehicles and passage for pedestrians,” laments Jayaraman, president of T. Nagar residents welfare association.

To add to this, they had also been dumping the construction debris over the past few weeks, besides stocking mounds of sand for the ongoing construction works.

They also block the pavements by putting scaffoldings, complains another resident. During evenings, vehicles start entering and staff offload textile stocks in the street.

They would leave behind nails all over the street which puncture our bike and car tyres, points out K.S. Sridhar, joint secretary.

Residents also allege that the street has transformed into a public toilet because of the showroom employees. “A few employees urinate only in our street. The public also follow suit and our street stinks now,” he adds angrily.

Mr Jayaraman laments that their repeated complaints to the corporation officials and civic representatives have fallen on deaf ears.

Corporation authorities told Deccan Chronicle that they would look into the matter and pointed out that they had imposed a fine on the particular firm on earlier occasions as well.
