In what has created a sensation in political circles in Assam, an office-bearer of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee is alleged to have fled with Rs 1 crore cash belonging to Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki.
This came to light here on Saturday when Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Anil Raja clarified that a secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Rajesh Joshi was involved in the incident but in his individual capacity.
Asserting that PCC had no role in to the incident, Mr Raja said, “Though, incident took place on September 7 but it came to our notice this week only when PCC chief Bhuwneswar Kalita intervened and asked the parliamentary secretary (home) Bhupen Bora to refer the matter to the police for the recovery of the cash from Mr Rajesh Joshi.”
Narrating the incident further, Mr Raja said, “One Mr Tarh Kuyu, a close confident of Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Nabam Tuki, came to Guwahati on September 7 for transferring Rs 1 crore through hawala to New Delhi.”
Pointing out that Mr Kuyu could not meet the person who was supposed to take the “hundi” to transfer the money to Delhi through hawala, Mr Raja said that Mr Kuyu approached PCC secretary Rajesh Joshi who happens to be a close confident of Mr Tuki. Mr Joshi called Mr Kuyu to hotel Nakshtra and assured to transfer the money through his channel of hawala, said Mr Raja pointing out that money was handed over to Mr Joshi at the hotel premises in presence of some eyewitnesses too. Mr Raja claimed that Mr Joshi has also given a written acknowledgement of having received the cash.
However, Mr Joshi failed to transfer the money and started avoiding Mr Kuyu and even Mr Tuki tried to contact him but was not approachable. In an obvious attempt to recover the money, Assam PCC chief Mr Bhuwneswar Kalita was also approached.
