The Union HRD ministry on Thursday initiated a probe to ascertain how three unauthorised persons, claiming to represent the ministry on a fact-finding mission, visited a Kolkata-based school for probing the suicide of a student.
HRD minister Kapil Sibal told agencies that he had not appointed any committee to probe the matter and also did not have any conversation with any of three persons in question.
“Mr Sibal asked officials to find out details of the matter and explore legal action against the three persons since they misrepresented the ministry,” official sources stated.
Sources said that the ministry is now contemplating legal action against the three persons who went to La Martinere for Boys on Wednesday and claimed before the media that they had “sought a report” from its authorities on the suicide of Class 8 student Rouvanjit Rawla days after he was caned by his principal.
Sources clarified that the ministry has not appointed any committee.
“It seems they have misrepresented the HRD ministry. We are exploring legal action against them,” they added.
The ministry has already sought a report on the issue of the visit of the three persons from the school and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Examination, to which the school is affiliated.
Ramesh Bhattacharjee, Anthony Arun Biswas and Dilip Dutta visited the prestigious school on Wednesday. Agencies reported from Kolkata that Bhattacharjee, who claimed to be the head of the probe team, gave a visiting card with national emblem on it.
The card said he was a member of the HRD ministry’s Department of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
