The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Nupur Talwar, in jail for over four months on charges of murdering her 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008, directing she be released from jail by Tuesday next week, during which time the CBI should complete examining other witnesses.
On the CBI’s claim that Nupur might influence crucial witnesses if freed on bail, the court gave it time till September 25 to examine the remaining witnesses, after which she will be released from Ghaziabad’s Dasna Jail.
“We direct the trial court will allow (a week’s) time to the CBI to examine the remaining material witnesses. Bail after 10 days, upto September 25,” ordered a bench of Justices A.K. Patnaik and J.S. Khehar. The bench said even that if the CBI failed to complete examining witnesses in the next week, Nupur should be released from jail on September 25.
