The MMRDA now has plans to construct a flyover at the Kherwadi Junction. With this flyover.
“The MMRDA has invited tenders to design and construct a 580 metre-long and 25 metre wide flyover over the Kherwadi Junction,” said Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director, MMRDA.
Presently, motorists who travel during the peak hours get stuck at the Kherwadi Jun-ction, and this flyover will help them bypass another major traffic signal.
According to the bid document, the flyover with the estimated cost of `38 crore, has to be completed in 18 months. The work on the project is expected to begin in January 2013.
“The MMRDA has decided to construct this flyover arm-by-arm to provide more space for the commuters even during the construction,” added Mr Kawathkar.
The Maharashtra State Road Devel-opment Corporation too has plans to construct a flyover at Kherwadi Junction. “We have asked the MSRDC to let us know about their any plans and their designs, so that we can coordinate with them,” said an MMRDA official.

De-watering starts on MV amsterdam
AGE CORRESPONDENT
Mumbai, Sept. 13
The situation onboard MV Amsterdam Bridge has improved, as salvors appointed by the shipping company have started the de-watering exercise.
“The fire onboard MV Amsterdam Bridge has been extinguished, and the vessel is safely anchored about half a mile south of the Mumbai Port’s entrance channel,” read a statement released by the Directorate General of Shipping.
As the fire fighting exercise was conducted for more than 48 hours, a lot of water has got accumulated inside the vessel. In order to maintain stability of the ship, it is important to remove the water. It may be recalled that INS Vindhyagiri had sunk inside Naval Dockyard due to flooding inside the warship after fire fighting.
“Salvors have started the de-flooding of the vessel from hold number three. Three pumps, with a combined capacity of 200 tonnes per hour, are being used for this purpose,” added the statement.
Anti-fire fighting experts on Thursday boarded the vessel to assess the situation. Now, on the basis of their recommendations, a final decision will be taken on whether or not to move the ill-fated vessel and cargo to another location.
