The Centre’s direction to the CBI at the eleventh hour to replace its lawyers arguing against the bail plea of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy before the Supreme Court has raised eyebrows. The case com-es up for hearing on Friday. The Centre directed the CBI to replace Mr Ashok Bhan and additional solicitor-general Haren Rawal and named Mr Mohan Jain as one of the replacements.
The move comes in the backdrop of the Opposition parties alleging a nexus bet-ween the YSR Congress and the Congress at the Centre to bail out the Kadapa MP. Senior Telugu Desam leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, former Speaker, issued a statement on Thursday night alleging the replacement of CBI counsel was part of an understanding struck between both parties. He accused the Congress leaders of striking a deal with Y.S. Vijayalakshmi during her recent visit to Delhi to somehow ensure her son secured bail in the illegal investments case.
The CBI has already filed an affidavit before the apex court opposing Mr Reddy’s bail plea, stating that investigations were at a crucial stage, and there were chances that more chargesheets would be filed against the Kadapa MP regarding his alleged involvement in money-laundering cases.
