In yet another incident of gruesome killing a 30-year-old woman, Meenakshi, who was travelling with her five-year-old son was shot dead by an unknown assailant in broad daylight at Rohini. The killer, who came on a blue motorcycle, confronted the woman, who was on a rickshaw with her child.
Following a heated argument, the killer flashed out a revolver and fired six bullets at her from point blank range. The woman died on the spot. Though no one has yet been arrested, the police suspects this to be a revenge killing.
Meenakshi was the second wife of one Parwinder Rana. The man had divorced his first wife to get married to Meenakshi nearly five years ago, the police sources said.
Meenakshi’s mother alleged that Rana’s first wife’s brother held Meenakshi responsible for the divorce and often threatened to kill her. She alleged that the first wife’s brother had recently come to Meenakshi’s house and threatened to kill her. The police has dispatched a team to Sonepat where this brother of Rana’s the first wife reportedly lives. Since the murder took place in front of a temple at sector 16-B block, Rohini, the police has detained the priest for questioning.
As the assailant fled on his motorcycle after killing Meenkshi, the man who was pulling the rickshaw in which Meenakshi was riding immediately informed the police.
The body has been sent for postmortem. A case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been lodged at the K.N. Katju Marg police station.
