The CBI, which is probing the Coalgate scam, is now analysing Income-Tax department’s findings which has revealed that 13 coal blocks were allocated to private companies during the regime of former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in the state. The investigating agency suspects irregularities in the allotment of coal blocks to four private companies in the state during Mr Koda’s tenure.
According to sources the agency, which is preparing to register at least 10 more FIRs into the Coalgate scam, may book certain private companies which were allocated captive coal blocks in Jharkhand during Mr Koda’s regime. “The CBI is also planning to question some state government officials who allegedly played key role in coal block allocation in Jharkhand during Koda’s tenure,” sources said.
It is believed that out of total 63 allocations made in Jharkhand during the tenure of three former chief ministers including Mr Koda, 43 were allocated to private companies.
“It is also believed that three coal blocks were allegedly allocated to dummy companies during Koda’s tenure. There are reports that these companies were created a few days before the allocation of the captive coal blocks in the state. The agency is scrutinising details of these companies,” sources said.
“Role of two former associates of Koda is also under the scanner of the CBI in connection with Coalgate scam. The agency is also taking assistance of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in this regard,” sources said.
