Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was in the midst of students again, first at the Girinagar Bhavan’s School and later at the Kochi Co-operative Medical College, Kalamassery, on Friday, the second day of his tour of the city.
He inaugurated the programme that was got up to award MBBS degrees to 103 students of the fifth batch of the college and said that doctors should strive to eliminate diseases like tuberculosis and help contain HIV/AIDS. They must be a source of inspiration to the next generation.
The health sector should lay emphasis on continuing medical education programmes and research, he said.
At the Girinagar Bhavan’s, Kalam had a freewheeling interaction with students and the visionary was eager to test the depth of understanding of a few of them who wanted to be in politics.
As usual, the majority wanted to be doctors, engineers and scientists. A student who wanted to be a politician told Kalam he would strive to wipe out corruption while another said that she would work for the development of the nation.
