As Army has launched operations to flush out illegal arms in Western Assam, security agencies are now worried about the nexus of politicians with militant outfits in the Northeastern states.
Disclosing that there are credible evidence with home ministry on politicians facilitating payment of `15 crores to Ulfa few years ago, noted security analyst and former special director of the Intelligence Bureau Mr R.N. Ravi said time has come that such nexus should also be busted in the Northeast.
Pointing out that Ulfa had banned 33rd national games in Assam but subsequently some politicians joined hand and bought peace, Mr Ravi said, “There are credible evidence available with the home ministry that Ulfa was paid `15 crores to withdraw the ban.”
Asked about fund for paying the ransom, he pointed out that a leading construction company to raise infrastructure for the national games in the state in 2007, was compelled to escalate construction cost in order to facilitate the payment of ransom to Ulfa.
Mr Ravi said that some of the politicians in Manipur were caught for their nexus with separatist groups.

Special teams of the Hyderabad police are in Karnataka to get more information on possible agents inside Andhra Pradesh of the terror module that was busted in Bengaluru and Hubli last week.
Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma said, “We have sent teams to Karnataka. We will check out more details regarding the connections of suspects to the city.”
Mr Sharma said that the police has some information on sleeper cells. Obaidur Rehman, a student of Anwar Uloom College in Hyderabad, was arrested by the police in Karnataka.
