The recent survey conducted by a national TV channel seems to have moved the BJP central leaders to build bridges with former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. On getting a surprise call from the party central leaders, Mr Yeddyurappa left for New Delhi on Sunday afternoon.
Highly placed sources in B.S. Yeddyurappa camp told this newspaper that the central leadership has decided not to ignore the leadership of former chief minister. Taking into consideration the survey report telecast last week, the party senior leader Arun Jaitly asked him to come to Delhi for talks.
The sudden call by the party central leaders gave enough indication that the party seems to be ready for a compromise with Mr Yeddyurappa. The party would request him to take a lead role in the build-up to 2013 Assembly elections. Buoyed by the call, BSY loyalists hoped that the party is seriously considering his candidature for the state unit chief.
Once the party national president Nitin Gadkari returns to India from his Canada trip, he will set in motion the process of appointing the new state BJP president. Before taking a decision in this regard,, party has decided to consult Lingyat strongman, sources said.
According to sources, Mr Jaitly held one to one meeting with former chief minister in Delhi on Sunday evening at an undisclosed location. Another round of meeting is likely to take place on Monday evening in the presence of loyalist legislators of Yeddyurappa.
The former chief minister did not disclose his Delhi trip to anybody except his family members and close associates. Even party central leaders have told Mr Yeddyurappa not to disclose to anyone about his Delhi trip, sources revealed.
