A youth was arrested from Madhya Pradesh by the Lake Town police under the Bidhannagar police commissionerate for allegedly kidnapping the “adult” daughter of a diamond merchant in Burrabazar and marrying her later.
Kamal Kadel, the daughter of the businessman and a resident of Dakshindari, came to know Sagar Sribas of Raipur in Chhattisgarh during a relative’s wedding.
Leaving home, the 22-year-old woman on her own wish married the 23-year-old management student on June 22. Informing her family about her wedding, she started staying there with her husband. “I chose to marry him on my own wish. But my family lodged a false complaint five days later against my husband alleging that he had kidnapped me. Sagar was even arrested by the Lake Town police when we went to Madhya Pradesh,” she complained.
Ms Kadel asked, “When both of us are adults, why is the police harassing me and my husband? He is now in jail.”
Sagar’s family members alleged that her parents had also threatened them of implicating them in murder case.
