KCR plans next move after deadline for T ends

With the Centre remaining silent on bifurcation of the state even as the TRS’ deadline to it for a decision on the issue got over on Monday, it’s back to the drawing board for party chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to strategise his next move. Though Mr Rao has not given up hopes for a positive decision from the Centre even now, sources in the party said he is getting ready for the next round of battle.

Maintaining that he was assured by Congress leaders in New Delhi of a “positive decision” on Telangana soon, Mr Rao had set the August 20 deadline at TNGO’s farewell function for its former chief Swami Goud. Sources in TRS said Mr Chandrasekhar Rao is keen to pursue a two-pronged strategy if the Centre continues to remain silent on the demand for a separate state. First, draw up an agitation plan in phases and, second, put the organisational set-up in place from village to district level in all 10 districts of the region in a bid to prepare for the 2014 elections, the sources said. The TRS chief has also convened a full-fledged meeting of leaders from the party’s politburo, Legislature Party and convenors or heads of all 10 districts, besides the chiefs of the party’s different front organisations. The meeting, scheduled for August 24 to 26, is primarily a brainstorming session to chalk out the next move, senior leaders said.

“The proposed three-day meeting is as scheduled. We will plan the next move,” TRS Floor leader in the Assembly, Mr Etala Rajender, confirmed. It is also learnt that the TRS chief is toying with the idea of holding the meeting at a farmhouse on outskirts of the city or at a convention hall, instead of the congested Telangana Bhavan, to ensure the leaders stay put and participate.
