Colleges and educational institutions are trying to calm their frightened north east students in different ways as several want to take their loved ones and go home where they will be safe. At the St Joseph's Arts and Science College, leaders of the Muslim community addressed the north eastern community on Thursday, saying there there was absolutely no animosity between the two communities. “Police have asked students to report any untoward incident and assured them security. Eighty per cent of the north eastern students came to class today," said Dr Cherian Alexander, head of the college's department of English.
“I addressed the north eastern students this morning,” said Sister Juanita, principal of Mount Carmel College, adding, “They are very scared and about a hundred students want to go home. I offered them place to stay in the hostel, along with food and increased security, but most are worried about their brothers and sisters who also live and work in the city.”
MLA, B N Vijay Kumar, met students of Jain University Thursday morning to reassure them and the Jain institutions tightened their hostel security,. “The rumours have spread like wildfire and so we are providing the students security,” said Jain University vice chancellor, Dr N Sundararajan. All the students from the north east have been given the mobile numbers of their respective principals and can call them at any time, he added.
