In a bid to reform nearly 100 juvenile delinquents from 18 police stations, the North division police had organised a reformation programme at KLE College in Rajajinagar. Film artistes, psychiatrists from Nimhans and founders of a few NGOs were invited to reform the juvenile delinquents who were in the age group of 13 to 17 years. Some of these delinquents were involved in murder, attempt to murder cases, thefts, robberies and other crimes.
DCP (North) H.S. Revanna called upon the delinquents to give up criminal ways and become literates. “Children are the future of the country. They have to cultivate moral values while studying and should contribute to nation-building. Children should not indulge in any kind of illegal act just for the sake of momentary happiness and for the sake of others,” the DCP advised.
“Children who do not heed their parents can fall into wrong company, which could prove a serious threat to society. If children indulge in any criminal activity, it is the parents who suffer the most. Children should not feel that they are being controlled by their parents”, the DCP said. On an experimental basis, the juvenile delinquents of Malleswaram sub-division underwent a reformation programme on July 13. These delinquents have not indulged in any crime after the reformation exercise and it was expanded to other sub-divisions of North division which is said to be the first of its kind, the DCP added. Actor Vijay Raghavendra called upon delinquents to work hard to come up in life as there are no second chances.
