The syndicate of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) at a meeting on Thursday, decided to do a feasibility study on starting a regional centre of the varsity at Thiruvananthapuram.
The syndicate also decided to invite applications for the evening LLB courses to be started by the varsity at its new regional centre set up at SD College, Alappuzha.
The meeting also decided to revise the medical reimbursement facility for the varsity staff by extending it to KGMA recognized hospitals in the state. As of now, treatment has been restricted to hospitals in Ernakulam district alone.
The syndicate deferred to its next meeting, a decision on picking the person to head the School of Marine Sciences.
A controversy is already brewing on the issue of giving the directorship to Dr Chandramohankumar, who was also the former registrar of the varsity.
The syndicate is not in favour of this proposal as Dr Chandramohankumar is known to have left-leanings.
Thursday’s meeting also decided to give as festival advance only the amount decided by the government in view of the poor financial state of the varsity. Vice Chancellor Dr Ramachandran Thekkedath did not attend Thursday’s meeting, which in his absence, was chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Godfrey Louis.
