The mounting piles of garbage and the increasing number of murders in Bengaluru city have left Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj a concerned man. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Cartoonist’s Association, Mr Bhardwaj said such incidents have affected the image of Bengaluru. He urged the government to initiate steps to restore the confidence of Bengaluru residents in the administrative machinery.
Commenting on the increasing number of murders, Mr Bhardwaj said in the last 15 days, the media has reported on several of them. Most of the victims are either women or old people. This makes one doubt if the law and order situation has deteriorated in the city, he said. “The need of the hour is instilling confidence in people. The police should sensitize citizens on the situation. Bengaluru has good police officers. I will be calling a meeting of the Chief Minister, home minister, DG&IGP and the city police commissioner to discuss the issue,’’ Mr Bhardwaj said.
“There is no worse sight than the garbage piles on roads. Bengaluru is a cosmopolitan city with several foreign dignitaries visiting it regularly. Garbage piles spoil its image. The Mayor and the minister in charge of Bengaluru should ensure the problem is sorted out soon,’’ he added.
