The Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan has offered to buy tickets for those Indian nationals who may be facing temporary financial difficulty due to their hurried evacuation from the violence-hit Kyrgyz towns of Osh and Jalalabad to the capital Bishkek.
The external affairs ministry said here Wednesday that as per government rules, individuals who avail themselves of this facility will need to hand over their passports to the Indian embassy which then will issue “emergency certificates” and provide one-way tickets to India.
The individuals will have to repay the money to the government later to get their passports back.
Earlier in the week, the Indian embassy in Bishkek safely evacuated 105 Indian nationals from Osh and Jalalabad.
The embassy has made arrangements for their food and stay at the hostels of the International University of Kyrgyzstan.
Some of the evacuees want to stay on in Bishkek but others are keen to fly to India for their summer vacation.
The embassy is providing free passport and visa services to those whose passports were either left behind due to their hurried evacuation or whose visas had expired.
Commercial and chartered flights are operating normally in and out of Bishkek and the Indian embassy estimates that those who wish to travel to India should be able to book a flight.
There are at least three flights from Bishkek to India this week.
“The government’s primary concern in situations of distress for Indian nationals is to get them out of harm’s way by the fastest possible means. This is precisely what was achieved when the embassy chartered an aircraft to bring our nationals from troubled Osh and Jalalabad to Bishkek,” external affairs ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash told a news conference.
