Freshers can easily log in and state their problems

While ragging was once considered the best way to break the ice between juniors and seniors, a few unfortunate cases in the last few years have led to its ban in all colleges. And to ensure that the seniors do not bully freshers, a few helplines in the city are working around the clock for students’ safety.

Dr S.K. Srivastava, associate professor, Department of History, Hansraj College, DU, tells us, “We have an anti-ragging cell where we have formed a committee including teachers and the non-teaching staff. Duties have been given to each person and a certain area has been designated to teachers. We want seniors to interact with freshers in a friendly way but we won’t allow any kind of bullying. Also, if we witness something similar, the ID of the student is confiscated.” Apart from that, you can now just log on to a portal against ragging. Anti-ragging.in includes affidavits confirmed by each student and his/her parents or guardians, which are stored electronically and will contain the details of each student. Secondly, record of registered complaints received and the status of the action taken. “This website is really helpful as you can have an access to it from anywhere. We live in a world of BlackBerrys where it’s more convenient to quickly file a complaint online than wait for helplines to respond,” says Rohit Chawla, Eco Hons student.
Another organisation run by Prof Raj Kachroo, who has introduced the concept of antiragging.in with the Government, is Aman Movement. Here, they register your complaints and forward it to the concerned authority. “Once we get a call from students, we immediately get in touch with that college and send them the required info. We try and be as prompt as we can,” says an official from the Aman Movement.
