You did not allow me to rule freely: BSY

Former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who frequently played the role of ‘super chief minister’ in the Legislative Assembly, blamed his party colleagues for not allowing him to rule the state with a free hand, on Thursday. Participating in a debate on implementation of Right to Education (RTE), he said the Opposition too posed many hurdles during his reign. His reply came after primary and secondary education minister Visveshwar Hegde Kageri replied to the debate initiated by Opposition members. Soon after Mr Kageri’s reply, Congress legislator Mr Srinivas Prasad asked Mr Yeddyurappa, “You were the Chief Minister for three-and-a-half years. Why did you not implement RTE?”

Mr Yeddyurappa said he did his best despite hurdles posed by his party men and the Opposition. “When I was the Chief Minister, neither you, nor my own party men allowed me to function peacefully. Despite that, I have done my best. I consulted experts and launched so many welfare measures. I hope that the people appreciate my work. In the coming elections they will give certificates,” he added. BSY advised the government to abolish TCH course and appoint post graduates as teachers in primary schools. Besides, suggested that the government upgrade the syllabus for children of primary schools.
