I like to keep my options open: Nikita

Former Miss India-Universe Nikita Anand is not afraid of failure. The actress, who made her Bollywood debut with the film Dil Dosti Etc., says that her aim is always to try to do something different and not worry about the results.

The actress, who has worked in Ek Second Jo Zindagi Badal De (2010) and Gandhi To Hitler (2011) as well, is all set to return to the silver screen with 4 2 Ka 1, a romantic comedy that also stars Jimmy Shergil. But most people remember her only in Dil Dosti Etc. Does that bother her? “Not at all. I do not feel bad or depressed that people don’t remember me for my other films because I always wanted to do things differently. I give everything to my work but I do not spend sleepless nights wondering why my work was appreciated in one film and not the others. If it’s an honest effort, it will certainly show,” she says, adding, “However, a little appreciation is something you always expect from any work.”
Nikita started taking part in beauty pageants at a very young age — her first victory came at the age of 13 when she won the Miss Ranchi pageant. Later on she won the Femina Miss India-Universe and went to represent India at the Miss Universe 2003 pageant. Nikita failed to make it among the top 10. But that didn’t deter her from thinking big, and four years later she was playing one of the female leads in Dil Dosti Etc. “I was never the type to sit and mourn about things,” she adds.
Besides films, Nikita has also anchored cricket shows and Nascar rallies. “Cricket is one game that I still follow. I am not a fan of Test cricket, but I catch up ODIs and T20s whenever possible,” she says. Having tried acting, anchoring and modelling, and studied fashion designing at NIFT, New Delhi, is there anything else that she wants to do? “Designing is there at the back of my mind, but it’s something I can pursue any time,” she says.
So, is that Nikita’s Plan B? “I do not have a Plan B, C or D, although, I like to keep my options open. Right now acting is what I want to focus on,” she says.
