‘I had to be completely shameless’

As far as her profession goes, Sarah-Jane Dias does not have a problem being a complete besharam. After playing a night club dancer in her debut film Game, she now finds herself in the middle of unlimited naughty jokes in the forthcoming Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum.

“I learnt with this film that when you are doing comedy, you should not feel ashamed of looking stupid or funny on screen. The requirement of the film was for me to be completely shameless and that is what I followed to the T. I had to just switch myself off, take a deep breath and stop thinking about how the others would react,” says Sarah who is in the news for reprising the “Dil Dola” moment from Devdas, albeit with a naughty “dildo” twist to it.
She further goes on to defend the double meaning dialogues in the film. “Pick up anyone’s BBM and you would find that seven out of 10 jokes are sex-oriented. Isn’t that normal?” she questions. “We all enjoy these jokes so now we have gone ahead and made an entire film. What’s wrong with that? I come from a marketing background and can study people well. Better give them what they are ready for.”
“Having said that, I feel that sometimes, as an actor, you tend to over analyse a single line or your part as a whole. That sometimes leads you to doubt your own judgement which, in my opinion, is wrong as excess of anything is wrong.”
The moral brigade, however, seems to have its hands full with the movie. What does Sarah think about this apparent disconnect between the audience and the moral brigade? If the audience is fine with such films then what’s the problem? “Search me!” sighs Sarah. “Come on, can’t we see that we have an ever changing audience? Kyaa Kool Hain Hum had released seven years back and even then the audience had lapped it up. Last year, we had Delhi Belly and it did well too. Today’s audience is ready for different themes. Ours is an adult comedy and I don’t see why anyone should not enjoy it. At the end of the day, people react to varied emotions in the same way.”
