Vijayashanti: Probe attack on T-activists

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti has accused the Kiran Kumar Reddy government of acting vengefully against the people of Telangana. TRS MP Vijayashanti, along with TRS Mahila wing chief T. Uma and other party leaders met home minister P. Sabita Indra Reddy and submitted a memorandum, demanding a high-level probe into the attack on women activists during YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vijayalakshmi’s visit to Sircilla and action against the erring cops.

“Policemen and Seemandhra goondas beat up women and other party activists, protesting against the visit of Ms Vijayalakshmi. The police beh-aved in a very high-handed manner, resulting in severe injuries to T-activist Raheemunnisa, who had to be hospitalised,” Ms Vijayashanti alleged. The police officer should be suspended and stringent action taken against him, she said.

‘Security to Deeksha was police decision’
DGP, law and order, S.A. Huda, has said the security given to YSR Congress leader Y.S. Vijayalaksh-mi’s ‘deeksha’ was decided at the district police level, as per “regular process.” There was no governmental or police headquarter level order or involvement, he said. An inquiry by Nizamabad range DIG has been ordered into allegations of excess use of police force in Medak, the DGP said while responding to criticism.

“In the case of Ms Vijayalakshmi taking ‘Chenetha Deeksha’ at Sircilla of Karimnagar district, there was neither any reference from the government nor any instruction from the police headquarters,” he said. The police officer added, “In all such matters, just an intimation is made from the Intelligence department, and it is for the local unit officers to take action.” They were free to permit or ban a political action, and the Karimnagar SP got whatever force he had asked for. In all, 300 personnel were deployed for the Siricilla meeting, Mr Huda said.
