Ishant Sharma is going through a tough phase in his career. Having been ignored for the Zimbabwe tri-series and the India ‘A’ squad, the Delhi speedster was, not surprisingly, overlooked for the Asia Cup.
Yet, he is confident that he will make a comeback to the Indian squad soon.
“Yes, it is tough phase for me at the moment but as a cricketer we have to learn to cope with such situations.
“I am working on my fitness and staying confident that I can figure in the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka,” said Ishant, who was in the city for a promotional event.
Ishant said that his Delhi teammate Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh, who himself is in the news for being axed from the Asia Cup squad, had advised him to stay positive.
“My seniors Sehwag and Yuvraj spoke to me at length to be positive. They mentioned that I have the potential to get back to playing international cricket but such moments are part of our life. We have to keep pushing ourselves to be motivated to play,” he said.
When asked whether he was fit only for the Test arena, he said, “If that was the case than I wouldn’t have figured in the Indian Premier League or in the 40-odd one day internationals. It’s just that I am not selected in the Asia Cup, the next big series is the Test series in Sri Lanka and I am concentrating on getting into that squad,” he said.
