Garbage bins located on the main roads will be shifted into the interior lanes and bylanes of Hyderabad. A large number of vehicles will be hired, and the number of trips to clear the garbage increased considerably. What's more, notice boards will be displayed, informing the citizens about the time of garbage clearance for each bin. Hundreds of new garbage bins are being procured to put an end to open garbage dumping points.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is laying a special focus on keeping the city clean in view of the upcoming international biodiversity conference (COP-11). GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu has issued a series of directions to officials, contractors and workers while reviewing the sanitation activities. Women sweeping the roads will be given brooms with long handles so that they are less exposed to dust and get relief from backpain. A large number of roads will be cleaned during nights when traffic is less. A higher number of bins will be placed at various places in the city to reduce open garbage dumping, and shopkeepers will be fined for throwing garbage outside their shops.
Mr Krishna Babu expressed a displeasure for not displaying the schedule of garbage bins’ lifting. He directed the deputy municipal commissioners to install boards within a week. He asked the officials to pass on the information regarding newly formed seven-member groups to sweep the roads. Hand-held computers will be given to to sanitary supervisors to inspect and levy fines for garbage dumping. Police cases would be booked if culprits continued to dump garbage after being fined twice, he warned.
The commissioner instructed sanitation officials to take up the sweeping of roads in day time where the vehicular traffic is less. He directed the deputy commissioners to focus more on night sweeping.
