RTI activist and Team Anna member Akhil Gogoi here on Friday was attacked and critically wounded by suspected youth Congress activists in lower Assam’s Nalbari district.
In what is alleged to be a planned attack on RTI activist, some youths armed with sticks and sharp weapons attacked Mr Gogoi, who had gone to Punni village in Dharmapur area of the district to take stock of the flood situation.
Mr Gogoi, who filed an FIR at Nalbari police station, has accused that six youth Congress activists attacked him at the behest of Assam agriculture and parliamentary affairs minister Nilmani Sen Deka, who represents Dharampur assembly constituency.
Security sources in Nalbari, which was tight-lipped about the incident following the alleged involvement of agriculture minister, said that RTI activist was received head injuries.
He was shifted to Nalbari Civil Hospital in critical condition and was profusely bleeding.

Failed to get jundal custody, NIA tells court

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had sought the custody of the alleged key handlers in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks to be produced before the NIA court on July 6, had told the court that they have failed to get the custody of Jundal to interrogate in a conspiracy to carry out attacks in various parts of the country.
The agency was asked by special NIA Judge H.S. Sharma to produce Abu Jundal, alias Sayed Zabiuddin, on July 6 in connection with the FIR lodged on June 8 against Jundal and another suspect allegedly involved in a conspiracy amassing substances to carry out attacks in various parts of the country. The federal agency informed the NIA court that Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav on Thursday handed over the remand custody of the alleged terrorist to special cell of Delhi police for another 15 days. However, the agency also said that it will again make a plea for the custody of Jundal. According to the NIA report, earlier on June 8 an FIR was registered against Jundal and a suspect, Fayag Kagazi, for allegedly making efforts to collect explosives as per a plot by LeT members for organising terror strikes across the country.
