With the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) starting admissions to medical and engineering colleges it is feared that candidates who have gained admission in multiple institutions may join hands with touts to block government quota seats in private professional colleges this year too.
But demonstrating that honesty is possible, two students allotted CET ranking have decided not to participate in the process saying they have already made up their minds to join other courses. Mohammadsanaulla K Huddar and Heenakousar I Sarawad, who were allotted engineering and ISMH ranks, have opted out of the CET counselling process.”
“While Mohammadsanaulla said he wanted to do either a BSc in agriculture or veterinary science, Heenakousar explained she intended to do a regular BSc course. The decision has pleasantly surprised KEA officers as students who pass multiple entrance examinations can joins hands with touts instead to block seats. “Every year we see hundreds of government seatsgoing to the management quota at the reconciliation meeting due to the unholy nexus between agents and students. Last year we were forced to give a list of students who had secured seats in more than one institute as a result. The gesture of these students should encourage more of them to come forward to surrender their seats instead,” says an officer, pointing out that now two more seats will be available for CET counselling this year.
“This year we will publish a separate list of students who opt for counseling well in advance,” he adds.
