Basic facilities will be provided at all anganwadis and nutritious food will be made available to pregnant women to bring down deaths of children due to malnutrition, the state government told the high court on Tuesday.
The government said it will act on an interim report prepared by a committee headed by Justice N.K. Patil, which looked into malnutrition deaths. The government told the bench, headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen, that it will organise statewide health camps to help children below the age of six and medical check-ups for pregnant women on a monthly basis. A health card will be distributed with complete family details of the malnourished child.
The government will provide free transportation and other benefits, like a day’s wage and foodgrains, to compensate families who get children to such health camps. A health camp on a pilot basis will be held in Puttur of Dakshina Kannada district, Devadurga of Raichur, Balki of Bidar, Yelaburga of Koppal and Piriyapatna of Mysore district on July 15. Later, these camps will be held every month throughout the state. The HC adjourned the case to July 24 and asked the government to file an action taken report by July 23.
