The state police will soon be equipped with automatic vehicle scanners that can detect explosives, contrabands etc., in moving vehicles. The vehicle scanners will be set up at the Tirumala entrance, CM’s camp office, DGP’s office, Secretariat, Assembly and the Raj Bhavan.
Stating that the scanning system will cost the state Rs 105 crore, DGP V. Dinesh Reddy said, “Vehicle scanning systems are alre-ady in place in Bengaluru and Mumbai. Our men are currently using mirrors and checking manually.”
The state police is also in the process of making a land databank to prevent encroachments on police lands. Additional DG (Welfare) Santosh Mehra said, “In the past 25 years, many police lands were encr-oached upon. We are now building a land databank. The lands will be used for stadia, marriage halls and other welfare purposes. In Tirumala, we are building a guest house for SI to DSP ranked officials.”
