People as young as 15 to 20 years are now increasingly at risk of heart problems, which according to cardiologists is about 10 to 15 years earlier than the average age of people affected in other countries.
According to a study presented at the Internatio-nal Workshop on Interven-tional Cardiology, organised by Yashoda Hospitals here on Saturday, a significant proportion of youngsters — about 22 per cent —- do not show any symptoms of cardiac problems before they suffer their first heart attack.
According to experts at the workshop, it is important to use high-end equipments now available to make treatment error-free. The new gadgets help detect blockages without error at affordable costs, according to cardiologists. Dr Pramod Kumar, chairman of the workshop’s scientific committee, said, “It is important to educate people and doctors about new technologies and identification of factors that cause heart attack.” A sedentiary lifestyle is believed to put the urban population at a higher risk of heart-related complications.
