Blackburn Rovers recently appointed Shebby Singh as the Director of Football. The appointment shows the sad decline of a club which is one of only five teams to have won the English Premier League, after it’s rechristening in 1992.
When the Venky’s took over Blackburn Rovers in November 2010, Blackburn supporters resigned themselves to hearing chicken jokes from rivals.
However, they felt a slight curiosity in their future as the Venky’s prom-ised that they would get Blackburn to the top of the league. They would sign Ronaldinho if necessary, they said. They eventually signed Yakubu.
In retrospect, the first mistake was probably sacking Sam Allardyce too fast. Allardyce is not a manager with finesse, his teams play the typical English way. However, he does not get relegated and expertises in getting his club mid-table without too much of a fuss.
Unfortunately, Venky’s are apparently putting all their hope into a ‘football expert’ who suggested at the beginning of last season that Newcastle United would get relegated.
It’s almost as if Anuradha Desai was watching a match on ESPN and thought, ‘Hmmm, this guy thinks Steven Gerrard should play at right-back, what innovative thinking, let’s make him responsible for our transfers.’
