[1]He has lent his voice to Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil songs, and has seen many stars jiggle, wiggle, shake and move to his tunes. Raised in Delhi, KK had sung over 3,500 jingles, before he got his big Bollywood break and after that there’s been no turning back for this Malayali boy.
Prod him on how he doesn’t have a Mallu accent and he quickly emulates one, “I can talk Malayalam just like a Mallu, but thankfully, I lived my life in Delhi, nahi to Bollywood mein chance hi nahi milta.”
With live shows and song recordings for upcoming films Shirin Farhad ki Nikal Padi and Krrish 3, KK plans to take it easy. “I’m not planning to do any albums as it takes a lot of time. I want to spend a lot of time with my family and two kids. We’re taking off to Europe for six weeks. I also love to go on long drives with my wife Jyoti and listen to current pop rock and bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and Linkin Park. I never listen to my own songs. I don’t like listening to any Bollywood songs,” he confesses.
With over 500 songs in Hindi and over 100 songs in other languages and live concerts, where does the singer get all the energy from? KK says, “I get drained out if I have to sing more than two songs a day. When I sing, I give my heart and soul to give that emotional touch to each song. It’s very important for me to understand what are the scenes and emotions attached before and after the song. It helps.”
In a country where many singers are struggling to make their career in music, what was it that made him strike the right chord at the right time? KK says, “Gulzaar saab gave me a chance to sing a few lines for Maachis and I will always be grateful to him.”
On his preparations before every recording or live show, KK says, “I keep my mind clutter-free. I sing from my heart.”
